Five Ways to Keep your Project on Track During Busy Construction Season
As we welcome summer and the busiest time of year for construction, projects in Wisconsin and throughout the United States continue to be competitive and robust. Contractors are in high demand while resources and labor are stretched thin. What does this mean to business owners and construction managers responsible for overseeing new projects and corporate remodels? You need to find general contractors experienced at managing heavy project loads… and then find ways you can actively help maintain your project schedule. Here are five ways you can help keep your project on track:
1. Do your research
Upfront due diligence will pay off in the long run. Find a general contractor who has been in business long enough to have developed strong industry relationships. This will allow them to have more success finding skilled and available subcontractors – a critical component to keeping your project on schedule and on budget.
Make sure the contractor has a track record of projects successfully completed on time and on budget.
2. Communicate your goals in advance
Discuss your project goals in advance with your contractor. Give them clear direction on what is important to you. You should have already selected a contractor you trust, so give them authority to make quick decisions on your behalf if necessary to keep the project moving.
3. Be decisive
Be available to your contractor and be ready to make prompt decisions to keep your project moving and circumvent any delays. Project schedules are orchestrated carefully and a seemingly short delay can offset the entire schedule.
4. Plan ahead
Anticipate your construction project timeline and plan accordingly. While your contractor will work hard to minimize the impact their work will have on your operations, be similarly respectful that your activities don’t interfere with their progress.
5. Pay promptly and fairly
You simply cannot get the best service, the best project oversight and the most efficient and experienced contractor for the lowest price. Be willing to pay for quality work, and ensure you pay fairly and on time.
A successful construction project means the job is done on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. At Peter Schwabe, Inc., we go beyond the ordinary. We share your concerns, vision, and enthusiasm throughout each step of the construction process.
